Issue with internet explorer

by ryanb » Fri May 09, 2014 5:56 am

Hello,

For some strange reason, everytime I launch internet explorer and point it to the server the sighthound logo appears and I can see the text such as camera on/off but it will not display the video content or video clips. If I play this in firefox it works fine. I have tried on multiple computers, changed internet explorer to compatible view, used the ip address of the server and the server name, enabled mixed content and even turned everything under security to low but stil no joy. Any help would be appricated.

Thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

It sounds like you may be using a very old version of internet explorer. Please ensure you are using an updated version - IE 11 can be downloaded here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/inte ... -languages

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried it with the latest version of IE and even used Chrome but still no luck.

Thanks

Hi Ryan,

Previously you mentioned that Firefox worked but IE was not. Is the behavior in Chrome identical to that of IE? Are these all from the same machine?

Hello,

Thanks again for your reply.

I have managed to check on 12 different units varing in different versions of internet explorer, 9 of them are running IE11. I thought origianlly it maybe an issue with the firewall but even after checking the firewall logs nothing is being blocked.

Thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

My apologies, I just re-read your original post. I had originally interpreted it as most elements not loading which can happen on old versions of IE which don't support a lot of newer javascript features. Instead it sounds like all elements are loading as appropriate, and the only thing that isn't functioning is that clips themselves won't play and the single camera live stream also won't play. Is that correct?

If only video is having trouble, my guess would be that you do not have flash installed in that browser (IE in this case). You can verify this by visiting https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Hello,

No problems, I appreciate your response. Orginally this was my thoughts I have already updated all machines to the latest version of flash but still no luck. I have even tried downloading shockwave. Even after a full install of the software I am having the same issue. If its any help I have copied the log from internet explorer:

Hi Ryan,

That error message indicates a version of Internet Explorer that didn't support JSON (Such as IE7). Your browser string also indicates that either you are running an older version of Internet Explorer, or have some sort of forced older compatibility mode enabled which is forcing the browser to act as if it is an ancient version.

The only thing I can find if you are on IE11 is that you may have "Enterprise Mode" enabled, http://gcn.com/blogs/pulse/2014/04/ie-1 ... ebuts.aspx - and according to a post elsewhere:

In IE open the compatibility view settings and remove the (website) from the listbox for "Websites you have added to Compatibility View". It worked for me.

Hello,

That was a great idea. I have just enabled this option in group policy but it still produces the same result. I have cleared the cache and temporary files just incase but still no joy. Sorry

Thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I'm afraid I'm not really an expert on Internet Explorer. With the doc strings you provided something is forcing your browsers into compatibility mode. We've tested extensively with IE11 and all should be working. With so many machines it sounds like you are in an enterprise type environment, you may have a corporate policy/setting that is forcing compatibility mode - I'm afraid I'm not terribly familiar with what automated methods may be at play here.

That being said, I'll have someone look into whether their are flags we can set, but this is unlikely to be effective. There are certainly compatibility flags you can use to tell IE to go into compatibility mode, such as the X-UA-Compatible header, but this is not in use (or our and other users would be directed into a broken IE experience). It seems that something on your machines is forcing compatibility mode, and it is unlikely that any directive from a site can override this.
