Vacation Mode

by Walt Dockery » Thu Apr 24, 2014 8:40 pm

I would like to see a new "Vacation Mode" feature.

Click one button at the top of the application to turn "Vacation Mode On", and all scheduled rules temporarily turn into 24/7 rules (and all cameras temporarily armed 24/7) until you return and click a button turning "Vacation Mode Off", at which point everything reverts to normal schedules.

Hi Walt,

Thanks for the feature request. A broader generalization of your request rule "groups" is a feature that has been suggested a few times that I think would be a great addition someday. This would enable easy toggling between a variety of scenarios - "home", "not home", "vacation", etc...

This is cool, but it could be risky if your set storage space is based off rules that have few false positives. 24/7 mode might eat up your storage faster because it's not recording everything, so if you had a theft 7 days ago, but your video only went to 5 days back you'd be in trouble inless i'm not understanding. It would be easy enough to have the vacation mode button recommend a higher storage capacity until your return :)

I have a 1280 res camera and that eats into my 200 gigs of video storage fast. I recently set it to 300 gigs because I didn't have a full week of storage. It's facing a busy street.

Hi Johnny,

Just to clear up any confusion, I think the 24/7 was just to have the camera on and monitoring, not necessarily setting the "temporarily keep all video" duration to a new value.

That is to say - you could set a camera to record 24 hours a day that normally only records while you're at work, but have your "keep all" video setting to 1 day, 8 hours, whatever you'd like. After that time period is passed, Sighthound Video keeps all clips matching rules with a save response as long as possible. This allows you to preserve weeks of data in the same space you might only be able to keep a few days worth of full video.

Given that, changing when cameras are on in the feature request doesn't/wouldn't really change the time period of video that would be stored.

Yes, it wouldn't be for continuous recording so much as for quickly changing alerts from say M-F 9-5 to 24/7 alerts until you return.
