Using a HP mini netbook with old vit D doesn't work

by BenH » Sun Dec 08, 2013 6:24 am

Hi, been using the free version of vit d for a while now on my large laptop and find it an excellent motion detector but it doesn't work on my HP MIni netbook.

What I find is that although I can see the program window, half the window is off my screen and I can't access it, therefore I am not able to use the program.

I have just uninstalled the old version on my mini.

Is it worth me downloading the new version to my mini? Will it work?

Thanks

Hi BenH,

Sighthound has the same size restrictions for the desktop application. It does, however, have a remote access feature which you could enable and then view clips and live streams from a browser.

I don't know if the HP Mini notebook will do this or not, but some video drivers have the ability to make the screen to be a window over a larger video display. If the screen is limited to, say 640x480, you can still set the driver to something larger, say 1024x780. Then when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen the display scrolls upwards to expose the lower portion of the overall desktop/program window. Likewise, move the mouse to the right edge and the display scrolls left to expose the right portion of the overall desktop/program window. Move the mouse to the opposite edge and it scrolls the other way. It is a little clumsy, but is workable for PC's that have small/low-rez screens.

EDIT: just in case you don't know how to get to the video driver setup, Right-click on the desktop (any place that does not have an icon or program window open) and a menu will appear that should have some entry associated with the screen setup. You can also get to the same setups via the Winders Control Panel. I'd like to be able to give more explicit instructions, but every version of Winders has changed the path to some setup screens and users can also alter how the Control Panel displays things, so this should get you started in the right direction to see if your PC will do what I have described... you will just have to read the screens and make some logical (or illogical, depending on your mindset!) connections with what it shows and what you want to do.
