Testing out software

by stigo » Mon Jul 08, 2013 6:15 am

Hi,
Would like to test out the software to see if we can use this with out system.
Our goal is to have a 40 inch TV which plays a movie or youtube clips when people "enter the zone"..
(this is also going to be combines with speakers in the ceiling. http://www.panphonics.com/directional-a ... und-shower)

But this can only be tested with basic and pro edition.

Would it be possible to have a 5 days license just to test if this software works for us ?

Regards,
Stig Henning

Hi Stig,

Audio responses are available in the starter edition. When editing a rule click the "If seen" box, followed by the "Take actions" tab and check the "Play this sound" box.

Was there something else you needed to test that required a license?

Thanks,
- ryan

Thanks for answering.

Well, yes.. our goal is that we have an internal website.
This website has video links etc.. and every 2 weeks the webpage updates itself with new content. but use the same layout. (i.e. newest video is placed on top)
(youtube.. you have one big window and several other smaller on the side.. we have the same)
This video(s) is what we would like to activate (have the software click on) when people enter certain zones..

Is this specific task doable ?

..(although I find this software very good, and going to use it myself on home camera, monitoring the garage.. my question above is job related :-))

Hi Stigo,

I'm afraid I don't completely understand your question. If you are asking if it is possible to have videos matching certain rules sent somewhere in your office so they can be added to a filesystem/web host, then yes, you can use the ftp response in one of the paid versions of the software to accomplish this. I'm unsure what you mean by "have the software click on", so I think I might be misinterpreting. Just let me know!

If we open youtube when the PC starts. (http://www.youtube.com)

Can this software control how to start a youtube clip ? and choose between different youtube clips ?

Hi Stigo,

This software doesn't interact with youtube at all. Are you asking for external video sources like youtube to be imported by the app, or for the ability to upload clips from VDV to youtube?

I think what the OP wants is for VDV to detect when someone is within a certain area, and cause a YouTube video to be played at that time. I assume the person will be standing in front of a computer display showing the YouTube video... I guess something like a museum where a video is displayed when the visitor is standing in front of particular displays.

I suppose a script or program could be written to be executed by VDV upon activation of a rule. One camera might have multiple rules to detect someone walking into different areas and each rule would activate a different script or program to play a different video.

The "Run a command" function of a rule in VDV could start a browser and pass the YouTube URL in the command line, but the delay between the "visitor" moving into an area and VDV issuing the Command, and the delay of getting the browser to start and download the video from YouTube would be quite excessive.

There are also ways to record and playback movement and clicking of the mouse, so the browser window could be open to YouTube and have the video pre-loaded so VDV could issue a Command to play a mouse movement macro, but the delay within VDV before a rule issues the Command is quite long and I'd be afraid that the "visitor" would be out of position before the video started to play. I sit right next to my Surveillance PC monitor and when I hear an audio alert I can immediately look at the screen and the cause of the detected movement is long gone... I have to go to the Review window and scroll down to the last video and replay it to see what caused the rule to issue the audio alert. All of my cameras issue a different sound file when motion is detected. Four of my cameras view the path the mailman takes and they will all go off, in an overlapping sequence of sounds, and when I hear the first one, I can look and the mailman is already out of the view of the last camera.
