Please Help - MP4 file incomplete?

by sean151 » Fri Jun 28, 2013 1:45 pm

I had VDV installed on a laptop in my garage and had it set to save video on my computer, just testing it out, it just so happens someone broke into the garage and stole my laptop. I have .mp4 files on my computer that were saved every 15 minutes at about 43 MB, the last file is about 17 MB, I have tried downloading different players and codecs, but will not play. Some of the errors I receive are: no moov, foov....; invalid container; from what I read I guess there is no "atom"? defining the video. I would appreciate any help.......

Hi Sean,

I'm sorry to hear your garage was broken into.

The last file was from the tmp folder rather than the normal video storage location? These files don't have the necessary metadata to inform video players how to read the contents (moov, etc...), this can't be written until the file is complete. If you'd like to email me the file or post it somewhere and send me a link I can see if there is anything I can pull out of it, but no guarantees - ryan@vitamindvideo
