adding IP/Internet-controlled siren component

by marcfest » Sat May 11, 2013 1:19 pm

Hi,

I was surprised (and impressed) to learn through these forums that VitaminD is a side activity for its developers. I recently began using the software with 4 cameras, and it's working so well that I was simply assuming that there had to be a full-time endeavor behind it.

Anyway, thanks to those who created this nice product and still dedicate some of their time to it.

Here's my question: Can you point me to a solution for adding an Internet / IP-controlled siren component? I'd like to be able to switch the siren on and off remotely via the Internet. Optionally, I'd like to have a video event trigger the siren.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Marc.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the compliments! I'm afraid I'm not aware of any IP accessible sirens off hand, though I'm sure they exist. Another option would be get a regular light/siren and control it via an IP accessible power outlet adapter (though again, I don't have specific recommendations offhand). You can execute custom programs/scripts/commands in response to events via the "Run the command..." response, information and examples can be found near the bottom of http://www.vitamindvideo.com/support/re ... rules.html

Hope that helps,
- ryan

Attach your siren or strobe lights to this: http://www.controlbyweb.com/webrelay/

Set VDV to run your script, that script will need to set the relay "on"

On Windows you can use this: WRctrl, command-line control of WebRelay.zip
