The D-Link DCS-942L camera I own isn't listed by Vitamin D Video as having been confirmed as working with their software. After much trolling of the forums, I finally discovered how to make the software connect to my "already working" camera. I'm using a Mac, by the way, running Mountain Lion.
Basically, I selected "Network (IP) camera" as the Camera Type and "Other" as the "Manufacturer" on the first page of the setup process. On the next page I selected "Manually specify the address of a network camera". On the third page I selected "rtsp" as the Protocol; entered the ip address of my "already working" camera (this is the address I can use to view the camera output on my Safari browser); entered "play1sdp" as the Stream path, then used the default User name of "admin" leaving the Password fields blank (I had never specified a password when setting the camera up originally); left the Scale video to: as the default "QVGA (320X240). On the next page where it tries to connect, the camera output showed up. Finally. Hope this helps someone.
